On the evening of September 15, 2024, officers responded to a report of a shooting in a wooded area near the 8000 block of Marlton Court in Severn, Maryland. The victim was 40-year-old Anthony Lee Brown of Glen Burnie, found shot multiple times. Life-saving measures were given on scene and he was taken to the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. His body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy.

Anne Arundel County homicide detectives regard the attack as targeted rather than random and say there is no immediate threat to the public. In the days after the shooting police released no suspect names or motive and appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
