Fernando Alvarenga Cuellar, a 38-year-old landscaper, was shot on Ridgecrest Drive in Camp Springs, Prince George’s County, Maryland, on August 6, 2024. The Prince George’s County Police Department received a call at about 2:30 p.m.; officers found him with gunshot wounds and he died at a hospital several hours later.
About two hours after the killing, a series of carjackings and a multi-jurisdictional police pursuit unfolded. Patrol officers in Oxon Hill responded to an armed carjacking on Fisher Road and soon spotted two carjacked vehicles on St. Barnabas Road. One stolen car crashed near St. Barnabas Road and Wheeler Road; a 16-year-old boy was taken into custody. The other crashed in Washington, D.C.; 25-year-old Deandre Boyd and another 16-year-old boy were apprehended after attempting to flee on foot. Detectives linked Boyd and the two teenagers to the earlier shooting; they were charged with first- and second-degree murder, carjacking and related offenses, and two firearms were recovered from the carjacked vehicles. Reports differ on whether the victim and suspects knew one another before the incident.
Did anyone in the area see activity on Ridgecrest Drive or St. Barnabas Road that afternoon?
