On the night of July 1, 2024, gunfire broke the evening calm in the 7700 block of Gough Street in Dundalk, Maryland, near Colgate Elementary School. Officers from the Dundalk Precinct found 20-year-old Jamel Nation outside with multiple gunshot wounds. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene and investigators classified his death as a homicide.
In the days after the shooting, Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland offered and later increased a reward to $8,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. On July 25, 2024, Baltimore County Police arrested 27-year-old Deandre Stokes and charged him with first-degree murder and additional firearms offenses; he was being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center without bond. The investigation into what led to the fatal encounter remains ongoing.
