On the evening of June 26, 2024, 39-year-old William Lee Hutcherson Jr. was killed following an altercation in the parking lot of a residence on Sea Gull Court in North Beach, Maryland. Hutcherson had brought a man identified as 40-year-old Anthony Wayne Simpson Jr. from Fredericksburg, Virginia, to the home to see Hutcherson’s pit bulls. Witnesses and surveillance show a verbal dispute escalated into a physical struggle.

Hutcherson initially held a 9mm semi-automatic handgun, but Simpson gained control of the weapon and a single fatal shot struck Hutcherson in the upper torso. Deputies and EMS found Hutcherson on the sidewalk shortly after 9 p.m.; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Simpson called 911, remained at the scene, placed the unloaded handgun near the front steps, and was taken into custody without incident. Detectives report Simpson made spontaneous statements during interview referencing being chased with a gun. He was identified as a convicted felon and later charged with multiple offenses, including second-degree murder.

If anyone saw the encounter in the Sea Gull Court parking area or has surveillance that night, please share what was observed.
