On the evening of April 14, 2024, 18-year-old Michael Delonta Cooper was shot multiple times at Seat Pleasant Neighborhood Park on Birchleaf Avenue. First responders arrived around 6:45 p.m.; Cooper was taken to a local hospital but died shortly afterward. He was from Washington, D.C.
The Maryland-National Capital Park Police, Seat Pleasant and Prince George’s County police departments opened a homicide investigation, canvassing the area and seeking witnesses. Investigators have not publicly identified any suspects or a motive. Police are also looking into whether a separate shooting that same evening in the 1200 block of Booker Terrace in Capitol Heights, which injured three men, is connected.
Prince George’s County is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Homicide Unit or the anonymous tip line.
