On the evening of Thursday, March 21, 2024, a burst of gunfire in Suitland, Maryland, ended the life of 31-year-old Donnel Jamal Tyler. Officers found Tyler, a Black man from nearby District Heights, in a parking lot in the 4600 block of Silver Hill Road around 7:30 p.m.; he was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.
Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit identified two people who had argued with Tyler shortly before the shooting and made arrests days later. On March 25, 2024, authorities arrested 41-year-old Shaquita Stewart and 44-year-old Wardell Holland III, both of Suitland. Police say the suspects and Tyler knew one another. Stewart was charged with first- and second-degree murder and being an accessory after the fact; Holland was charged with second-degree murder.
