George Rickey Savoy, 69, was found inside a home on Old Indian Head Road in Brandywine, Maryland, with a gunshot wound in the early morning of February 3, 2024. Prince George’s County police officers responding to a report of a shooting arrived at about 2:15 a.m.; Savoy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators quickly treated the death as connected to a domestic dispute. Several hours after the shooting, a 40-year-old man identified as James Savoy, the victim’s nephew and a fellow Brandywine resident, was located near the scene and taken into custody with the assistance of a K9 unit. James Savoy was charged with first- and second-degree murder and other related offenses and committed to the Department of Corrections as the legal process began.
