On a winter afternoon on December 22, 2023, gunfire shattered the quiet of a Capitol Heights neighborhood. Police found 26-year-old Yohans Raynor inside a car on the 300 block of Possum Court with a gunshot wound; he lived in nearby Bowie and was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Raynor fought for his life for weeks and died on February 6, 2024.

Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation. Detectives say they do not believe the shooting was random, suggesting Raynor may have been targeted, but motive remains unclear and no suspect or suspects have been publicly identified. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment; the investigation is active and no arrests have been announced.
