Alan Garnica, a 22-year-old Hispanic man from Gaithersburg, Maryland, was shot and killed on Friday afternoon, November 10, 2023, in the 18400 block of Lost Knife Circle in Montgomery Village. Responding officers found Garnica with a fatal gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene. An 18-year-old man was also found nearby with critical gunshot wounds and taken to a local hospital.

The Montgomery County Department of Police opened a homicide investigation. On November 21, 2023, investigators arrested two men, 19-year-old Kenes Yair Guevara and 20-year-old Osman Antonio Maldonado, each charged with first-degree murder and held without bond. Detectives continued developing leads and a third arrest followed: on December 14, 2023, 18-year-old Rodrigo Hernandez of Gaithersburg was taken into custody on an arrest warrant issued two days earlier and charged with first-degree murder; he is also being held without bond. The motive for the shooting has not been released.
