In the early morning of October 9, 2023, Tjai TJ Farmer, 42, was shot and killed while sitting in her vehicle in the parking lot of her Laurel, Maryland, apartment complex on West Side Boulevard. The shooting happened about 4:50 a.m.; police described the attack as an ambush and say a lone gunman approached and fired multiple times. Farmer died at the scene.

Family and friends remember Farmer as a devoted community worker active in youth outreach in Langdon Park, Northeast Washington, D.C., and as a longtime D.C. Government employee with the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Office of the State Superintendent of Education for more than 15 years. A police spokesperson said this was the only fatal shooting in Laurel that year and that the case is a high priority.

As of late 2023 no arrests have been announced and no suspects have been publicly identified. Does anyone who knew TJ or was in the West Side Boulevard area that morning have information to share with investigators?
