On June 28, 2023, 23-year-old Xavier Matthews of Temple Hills, Maryland, was fatally shot at a Super 8 motel in Camp Springs. Prince George’s County police were called around 7 a.m. and found two men with gunshot wounds. Matthews was taken to a hospital and died shortly after; a second man, 26-year-old Karon Moore of Washington, D.C., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say Matthews and 24-year-old Keymonte Day of Washington, D.C., were in a motel room when Day allegedly conspired with several men to rob him. Surveillance video reportedly showed Day placing a room key card behind a tire on Matthews’ Porsche SUV; a blue Infiniti later arrived and an individual retrieved the key. Around 6:55 a.m., three men, including Moore and 22-year-old Christopher Jamar Jenkins of Capitol Heights, entered the room armed. Gunfire broke out, killing Matthews and Moore; Day and the surviving suspects then fled.

Day and Jenkins were arrested the next day and charged with first-degree murder. Other individuals are still being sought as part of the ongoing investigation. Does anyone have information about Matthews, the motel, or movements around that morning that could help investigators?
