I was Brian's cousin. I was deeply concerned about his death. He was quiet, almost silent socially, and upbeat.
Brian Darnay Barber, 29, was shot in the early evening of June 22, 2023, in the 400 block of Bigley Avenue near Lakebrook Circle in Halethorpe, Maryland. Officers responded to a call about 7:40 p.m.; Barber was found with a gunshot wound to his upper body and was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Born in Baltimore, Barber attended Milford Mill Academy and Towson High School. Family remembered him as a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend with a passion for cooking; he worked as a crab steamer and had hoped to one day own his own business.
Baltimore County Police detectives described the shooting as an isolated, targeted incident and have said the investigation is ongoing. No suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests reported. If anyone saw activity in the Bigley Avenue or Lakebrook Circle area that evening or has information about the shooting, please contact investigators.
