A fatal shooting on East Carroll Street in Salisbury claimed the life of 16-year-old JaSiah Sincer Basnight-Johnson in the early hours of April 16, 2023. JaSiah, a Black/African American sophomore at Parkside High School, and a 22-year-old man, later identified as Jamere Capri Mayne, were both found with multiple gunshot wounds shortly after midnight. JaSiah was taken to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead; Mayne was transported to the same hospital for treatment.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit led the investigation with support from the State Police Criminal Enforcement Division and Salisbury Police detectives. Crime scene technicians processed the 300 block of East Carroll Street near Buena Vista Avenue and gathered evidence. On July 6, 2023, Maryland State Police arrested a 16-year-old male from Salisbury in Baltimore City; because of his age his name was not released. He was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, attempted murder and other offenses and held without bail pending an initial appearance in Circuit Court.
