Jacqueline Brant, known as Jackie, traveled from Illinois to Panama City Beach, Florida for spring break in early April 1986 and was last seen while vacationing there. Her parents reported her missing on April 15, 1986.
On November 30, 1986 a hunter found skeletal remains in woods off Back Beach Road in Panama City Beach. The remains were skeletonized and investigators determined the death to be a homicide, although a specific cause of death could not be determined from the condition of the remains.
In 2007 Mark Riebe confessed, saying he met Jackie at a bar called The Playground, strangled her in his car and buried her; he described her clothing and led police to a burial spot close to where the remains were found, but he later retracted the confession and the case has remained cold. Jackie’s death is one of a group of unsolved murders in the area linked in suspicion to Riebe, but her cause of death remains undetermined and the case is unsolved.
If anyone knew Jackie, saw her in Panama City Beach that spring, or has information about her movements or the bar called The Playground, please come forward.
