On the night of October 27, 2024, Howard Harris, 31, was shot and killed while working on a car in the 1400 block of Choctaw Street in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Officers arrived about 9:40 p.m. after repeated gunfire reportedly came from a nearby alley and found Harris with fatal gunshot wounds to the head and arm; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three other people — two men and a woman — were also wounded and taken to Memphis hospitals for treatment, with at least one victim airlifted. Harris’s death was recorded as Coahoma County’s 19th homicide of 2024. The Clarksdale Police Department said investigators are pursuing several leads but had not announced any arrests. The motive has not been revealed.
