On the early morning of Friday, September 13, 2024, 19-year-old Jeremiah Lloyd was fatally shot in what Summit Police Chief Alex Miller described as a drive-by attack at an apartment complex at 900 Cherry Street in Summit, Mississippi. Lloyd was taken by ambulance to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Two other teenagers, aged 15 and 17, were struck in the same volley of gunfire; the 15-year-old suffered a graze wound and the 17-year-old was more seriously injured, but both survived.

By initial reports there was no identified motive and no suspects named. The police chief has appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. The community has rallied around Lloyd’s family, including a GoFundMe set up to help with expenses.
