On the evening of September 2, 2024, a 911 call reporting a shooting brought Tunica County deputies to Kirby Estates Apartments on Kirby Road in the Robinsonville community. Responders found 38-year-old Vandarren Marqueze McCray of Clarksdale suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Tunica County Coroner. McCray was identified as a Black male.
The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office investigation identified several suspects. On September 4, 2024, deputies executed a search warrant at the apartments and took two men into custody: 30-year-old Tanio Hall of Robinsonville, later charged with murder and conspiracy, and 23-year-old Tavion Crutchfield of Louisiana, charged with accessory after the fact and conspiracy. Both had outstanding warrants from other states: Hall in Texas for a weapon offense and failure to appear, and Crutchfield in Louisiana for false imprisonment and battery of a dating partner. Two days later, on September 6, 2024, 32-year-old Jarvis Grant of Robinsonville was arrested and charged with murder and conspiracy. The case remains under investigation.
Can anyone with information about McCray, his movements that evening, or activity at Kirby Estates Apartments come forward with tips?
