The Greenville community lost 49-year-old Kerry Overton on the evening of June 29, 2024, when he was found fatally shot in a vacant lot in the 300 block of First Street. Emergency responders pronounced Overton dead at the scene; his death was recorded as the city’s fifth homicide that year.

Greenville Police, aided by the Special Response Team and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, investigated the shooting and arrested six people in connection with the case. The individuals taken into custody were identified as Carlos Cross, Julius Dillard, Tariq Harris, Kendrick Malone, and Jeremiah Wilson. They were charged as the inquiry continued.

A visitation for Overton was held on July 12, 2024, with a funeral service the following day at Sisson Chapel of Byas Funeral Home in Greenville. Does anyone have information about Overton’s last known movements or who might have witnessed the shooting?
