Caleb Bender, 12, was fatally shot at a residence on River Road in Stonewall, Mississippi, on Friday, June 28, 2024. The shooting deeply affected the small community; family and friends held a balloon release and offered support as they mourned.

The Clarke County Sheriff’s Department identified suspects and made arrests. Fourteen-year-old Chquese Porter was arrested, charged as an adult with second-degree murder, held at the Clarke County Jail and denied bond; the case is scheduled for presentation to a Clarke County Grand Jury. A second person, Lon McCoy of Stonewall, was arrested on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm and had bond set at $2,500. The investigation is ongoing.
