Shortly before midnight on April 28, 2024, a dispute outside the Sugar Shack nightclub in Utica, Mississippi, escalated into gunfire that left 41-year-old Jason Devon Harris dead. The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office reported Harris suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene; a total of five people were shot during the incident.
Investigators recovered a handgun, a revolver, and 23 spent shell casings, suggesting an exchange of gunfire. Two suspects arrested initially were 34-year-old Joseph Crum and 42-year-old Eric Dixon, who is the victim’s brother. A third suspect, 48-year-old Anthony Brown, was taken into custody and reported to have been among the injured. Three surviving victims were identified as Michael Brown, Deidra Williams, and Lorenzo Cooper; Michael Brown was listed in serious condition while the others were treated and released.
The motive remains under investigation; those involved were reported to know one another, including family ties. If anyone has information about the April 28 shooting or knew Jason Harris, please come forward.
