Seventeen-year-old Jameion Chatman, a Black student at Clarksdale High School, died after being shot on February 9, 2024. Gunfire erupted on Spruce Street and Chatman was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head near Spruce and Choctaw streets. Two young men transported him first to Mississippi Regional Medical Center and he was later airlifted to a hospital in Memphis, where he died of his injuries on Tuesday, February 14, 2024. His death was recorded as Clarksdale’s 10th homicide of the year.

The Clarksdale Police Department opened an investigation and interviewed the two men who brought Chatman to the hospital, but no arrests have been announced and police have not identified suspects or a motive.
