On the night of July 18, 2023, 22-year-old Preston Wilson Jr. was walking near Harrison and Cherry Streets in Vicksburg when a black SUV pulled up. An occupant called his name and warned him to watch himself, then drove off. The same vehicle returned moments later and opened fire. Wilson was struck, tried to run, and collapsed on Cherry Street; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Vicksburg police used video footage of the shooting to identify suspects and arrested three local men within days: 23-year-old John Earl Wallace Jr., 34-year-old Patrick Ross-Hunter, and 35-year-old Zackery Bryant. They were charged with murder, drive-by shooting and multiple counts of aggravated assault; Wallace and Bryant were also charged as felons in possession of a weapon. Bonds were set at over $4 million each and the case was bound over to the Warren County Grand Jury.
A fourth suspect, 18-year-old Perrion Johnson, was later located and arrested in Austin, Texas, and returned to Vicksburg to face murder and drive-by shooting charges in connection with Wilson’s death. Does anyone have information about Wilson’s movements that evening or about the vehicle seen at Harrison and Cherry?
