On the late afternoon of July 3, 2023, a dispute outside the Mexico Grill on Highway 61 North in Tunica, Mississippi, ended when 35-year-old Jimmy Dotson was fatally shot. First responders tried to treat Dotson at the scene, but he died of his injuries. A second person was also wounded and later taken to a medical center with non-life-threatening injuries after leaving the scene in a private vehicle.
Dotson, a father of six who was known to friends and family as He-Man, was remembered as the life of the party. The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office opened a homicide investigation that identified several people. Cortez Wilkins, 43, was initially named a person of interest and questioned but later released without charges related to the murder. Quinterrance Vardaman, 25, of Tunica, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Dotson’s death, and 36-year-old Jasean French of Coldwater was also charged with first-degree murder and taken into custody on July 31, 2023.
If anyone knew Jimmy Dotson or witnessed the events near the Mexico Grill that afternoon, please share what was seen or heard.
