Keon Kirk Jr. was 18 when he was shot dead on May 26, 2023, at The Luxe of Southaven apartment complex on Airways Boulevard in Southaven, Mississippi. He had celebrated his high school graduation days earlier and had plans to become a nurse. Keon and a companion went to the complex for a meeting that turned into a violent ambush; police arrived shortly after 10:30 p.m. and found Keon’s body. The companion had been shot three times, fled the immediate scene, and was later located and taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition.
Investigators concluded the shooting was a planned robbery in which Keon was lured to the location and that he knew his attackers. The Southaven Police Department, with help from the Hernando Police Department’s SWAT team, identified suspects and made arrests; authorities said the public’s tips helped lead to those apprehensions. Court filings announced capital murder, conspiracy to commit capital murder, and attempted murder charges against people connected to the case.
