Auden Jubilee Simpkins, 23, was killed in Jackson, Mississippi on March 25, 2023, during the city’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade. She worked at Madison Preschool and was a graduate of French Camp Academy. Friends remembered her for an infectious smile.
The fatal shooting began after a group in a truck saw a man, identified as Jordan Cummins, physically confronting his girlfriend, Jenny Lukens, in a parked vehicle. Several passengers, including 27-year-old volunteer firefighter Joshua Spann, exited the truck to intervene; Simpkins remained in the back of the truck. Cummins, who had reportedly been drinking heavily that day, retrieved a gun and opened fire, killing both Spann and Simpkins.
Cummins was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. His trial began in June 2024; prosecutors presented testimony about his intoxication and prior aggression that day, and witnesses said Cummins was the only person who fired a weapon. The jury found him guilty on both counts, and a judge sentenced him to two concurrent life terms.
If anyone knew Jubilee Simpkins or was at the parade that day, what details might help fill gaps in the timeline leading up to the shooting?
