Curtis Maurice Vaughn, 32, of Oxford, Mississippi, was last heard from around 11 p.m. on March 20, 2023; his family reported him missing the next day. His body was located the afternoon of March 22, 2023, near the Water Valley Municipal Airport in Yalobusha County, about 30 feet from the centerline of County Road 214. Investigators believe he was killed elsewhere and his body left on the rural road. He was the apparent victim of gunshot wounds.
Vaughn’s car was recovered in Paris in Lafayette County, prompting a multi-agency investigation involving the Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department, the Oxford Police Department, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department and the Lafayette County Metro Narcotic Unit. As of late 2024, no arrests or public suspect identifications have been announced. Vaughn was remembered by family as a loving father who loved boxing and football; he played for the Oxford High School Chargers and previously worked at the Walmart Distribution Center in New Albany.
Anyone with information about Vaughn’s movements on March 20–22, 2023, or who saw his car in Paris, is asked to come forward.
