Akera Franklin, 39, was found with a fatal gunshot wound in the early morning hours on a Sunday in the 200 block of Martin Luther King Avenue in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The Forrest County Deputy Coroner confirmed Franklin’s identity after he died from his injuries.

Hattiesburg Police investigators linked two family members to the shooting and arrested 21-year-old Roderick Bowman and his 30-year-old sister Shatara Carter. Authorities charged Bowman with first-degree murder and possession of a stolen firearm, and charged Carter with hindering prosecution. Law enforcement described the apparent motive as stemming from a domestic dispute involving a woman.
