Chris Eugene Boyce, 59, was fatally shot in Arkabutla, Mississippi, in February 2023 while visiting from Lakeland, Florida. He and his brother had been sitting in a pickup outside a convenience store tending to property they inherited from a deceased uncle when a gunman opened fire. Chris was in the driver’s seat and was killed; his brother escaped into nearby woods and later fled the area unharmed.
Authorities say the shooter, identified as 52-year-old Richard Dale Crum, continued a rampage after the convenience store attack that claimed five other lives in the rural community, including his ex-wife and his stepfather. Law enforcement located and arrested Crum at his home; he was booked without bond and charged with one count of capital murder in Boyce’s death, with additional charges expected for the other victims. It was not clear whether Crum had any prior connection to the Boyce brothers.
If anyone knew Chris Boyce, his travel plans, or saw activity near the convenience store that day, please share information.
