London Dewayne Rupert was shot while driving at the intersection of Washington Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Drive in Macon, Mississippi on the evening of February 3, 2023. He was taken to a hospital in Jackson and died of his injuries on February 5, 2023. Rupert was 35, born January 11, 1988, in Noxubee County.

Within a week police arrested two suspects: 20-year-old Deambershea Bush and 16-year-old Juaquaious Shanklin. Bush was charged with first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and shooting into a vehicle; Shanklin faced felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault. Both were held in jail—Bush denied bond and Shanklin’s bond was set at $200,000—while investigators awaited crime lab forensic results to present to a grand jury.
