Jaquarius Ross, 21, was fatally shot on January 21, 2023, in Flora, Mississippi. Deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office found Ross inside his truck at 623 St. Charles Street with multiple gunshot wounds to the left side of his body; a passenger in the truck was uninjured. Surveillance footage from a nearby home shows an individual approach the vehicle and fire about nine shots before fleeing on foot. The passenger later identified 22-year-old Jakeviyon Hunter as the shooter.

Investigators say Hunter posted hours before the shooting wearing a tan jacket that matched the jacket seen on the suspect in the video, and cell phone records place Hunter at the scene. Ross was apparently lured to the location with the pretense of bringing a pair of shoes; those shoes were found in Ross’s lap after the shooting. The motive is described as a prior dispute between the two, and both had been arrested together in November 2022 on possession charges after a traffic stop.

An arrest was made and charges were filed for the shooting. Did anyone in the Flora area know Ross or see him the day he went to 623 St. Charles Street?
