A fatal shooting at the Willow Run Apartments in Myrtle Beach ended the life of 24-year-old Rictavio Thompson on the evening of November 4, 2024. Police responded about 8:40 p.m. after reports that a weapon had been discharged and found Thompson inside a second-floor unit with multiple gunshot wounds; the Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner says he died at the scene.

Officers also found 28-year-old Leon East in the apartment, wounded in the torso, and four other people who were present. The initial investigation concentrated on the roommate relationship between Thompson and East. Leon East was taken into custody on November 15, 2024, and charged with murder and possession of a deadly weapon; he is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bail.
