On the afternoon of September 22, 2024, 16-year-old Natiya S. Browne of Charlotte was shot and killed at the Plantersville Store, a convenience store on U.S. Highway 701 South in Georgetown County, South Carolina. Deputies found Browne around 2:45 p.m. with two gunshot wounds to her chest; emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.

Investigators identified 20-year-old Daemon Hykem Sanders of Georgetown as the person allegedly responsible. Sanders was located and arrested later the same day, shortly after 7 p.m., and was charged with murder and booked into the Georgetown County Detention Center. A judge denied bond at a subsequent court appearance, and reports indicate Sanders may be claiming self-defense.
