On the evening of July 25, 2024, in Lincolnville, South Carolina, 18-year-old Thaao Elijah Stevens of Summerville was found unresponsive behind the wheel of a vehicle that had crashed head-on into construction equipment at the intersection of Mill Street and Dunmeyer Hill Road. Deputies discovered Stevens had suffered a gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives say the encounter began after two men contacted Stevens through Instagram to arrange what was portrayed as a marijuana purchase. During the meeting, one of the men allegedly attempted to rob Stevens at gunpoint. As Stevens tried to flee, someone reportedly fired into his vehicle, striking him and causing the crash that killed him. The shooting investigation was treated as a homicide.
