On the late afternoon of July 17, 2024, 27-year-old James L. Wright Jr. was shot and killed in the 500 block of Edgefield Road in North Augusta, South Carolina. Emergency responders pronounced Wright dead at 3:46 p.m. after he was found lying between two buildings with at least one gunshot wound.

Investigators say a 911 call came from someone inside a nearby store who heard the shots. Surveillance footage reportedly shows a light-colored Infiniti SUV pull into a paved lot beside 356 Edgefield Road, three armed individuals exit, approach Wright, fire multiple shots, then return to the SUV and flee left on Edgefield Road toward Interstate 20. Authorities have identified at least four Black male suspects described as armed and dangerous, but no arrests have been announced and the investigation is ongoing.

If anyone witnessed the shooting, saw the Infiniti SUV, or has information about the suspects, please contact law enforcement.
