On the evening of May 9, 2024, a home on Herbert Lane in Bishopville, South Carolina, was struck by a drive-by shooting. Nineteen shots—reports state a total of 49 bullets were fired—penetrated the residence, which included a 9-month-old boy, his mother and four other people. The barrage set a fire in the house and left the infant and his mother with serious gunshot injuries.

The infant, Benjamin Griffin III, was transported to a local hospital and died of his wounds on May 22, 2024. His mother survived despite multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators tied two brothers, 27-year-old Roshad Wilson and 18-year-old Rayquawn Commander, to this attack and to two other nearby drive-by shootings through ballistics evidence. Those additional incidents — an April 19 attack on a Raccoon Road home occupied by seven people and a shooting at a convenience store — caused no reported injuries.

Wilson and Commander were arrested; charges include one count of murder, thirteen counts of attempted murder, discharging a firearm into a dwelling and weapons possession. Wilson was denied bail at a court appearance, and the child’s father, Benjamin Griffin Jr., addressed one of the accused in court. Does anyone have information about the Herbert Lane shooting or the events on April 19 that could help investigators?
