On May 4, 2024, 21-year-old JaiShaun Young of Gastonia, North Carolina, was killed while visiting a home on Galilean Road in York, South Carolina. Young was on the back porch when about 15 to 16 shots were fired; he was struck and died at the scene. Police say two suspects in ski masks knocked, announced an intention to shoot up the house, then opened fire with a weapon described as similar to an AK-47. Investigators called the attack targeted and possibly gang-related, but said Young was not the intended victim and had no gang involvement.
Young was a father to a young son; his mother described him as a loving family man who last asked others to protect a one-year-old who was inside the house. In the days after the shooting two 15-year-old York County males were arrested — one around May 9 and another on May 16 — and charged with murder and multiple counts of attempted murder. Both were placed in the custody of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice. A judge found probable cause at a hearing for one teen already on probation; the solicitor’s office had not yet announced whether the juveniles would be tried as adults and investigators believe others may have taken part.
If anyone was at that house or has information about the shooting, please share what is known with investigators.
