Roy Phillip Knight, 40, was shot and killed on Hilton Head Island in the early morning of March 6, 2024. Deputies from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire on Old Wild Horse Road and found Knight; he was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:07 a.m. The shooting occurred near the island’s entrance and drew a heavy police presence.

Funeral services were held in mid-March, with a viewing on March 15, a service on March 16, and burial with military honors at Beaufort National Cemetery on March 21.

The investigation was ongoing and no information about arrests or identified suspects had been released. If anyone has information about Knight, his movements that morning, or the area around Old Wild Horse Road, please come forward.
