On the late evening of February 1, 2024, 19-year-old Darius Hooks of Goose Creek, South Carolina, was shot at a home in the Delta Oaks Mobile Home Park on Appian Way in North Charleston. Deputies from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and North Charleston police responded around 10:42 p.m. and found three people with gunshot wounds. All three were taken to Trident Medical Center; Hooks was pronounced dead at 11:21 p.m. An autopsy was scheduled at the Medical University of South Carolina to determine cause of death.
Two months of investigation ended with an arrest on April 3, 2024, when 24-year-old Simeon Darius Boyd of Ridgeville was taken into custody and charged with murder; he was denied bond the next day and booked into the L.C. Knight Dorchester County Detention Center. Authorities have not released a motive or described the relationship, if any, between Boyd and Hooks as the inquiry continues.
If anyone was at Delta Oaks on February 1 or has information about that night, please share what is known with investigators.
