On the morning of February 1, 2024, 18-year-old JaMir Johnson was fatally shot while waiting for the school bus at Rufus Street and Eighth Avenue in Conway, South Carolina. A nearby home’s security camera recorded multiple gunshots and the squeal of tires as a vehicle fled; police describe the incident as a drive-by shooting and say Johnson died at the scene. He was a senior at Carolina Forest High School and had celebrated his 18th birthday two weeks earlier.

The Conway Police Department identified a dark-colored Hyundai Elantra as a vehicle of interest and offered a $5,000 reward for information. Investigators located the car and were processing it for forensic evidence, but as of late March 2024 no arrests had been made in Johnson’s killing. The inquiry into his death grew more complex when investigators tied Johnson to a separate slaying: police allege he conspired with 22-year-old Justice Jhamere Bright in the January 10, 2024, murder of 25-year-old Tyree Leonardo Graham. Bright was arrested on March 24 on charges related to Graham’s death. Authorities are exploring whether Johnson’s killing was retaliation for Graham’s murder but say they have not found conclusive evidence.

Did anyone in Conway see the Hyundai Elantra near Rufus Street and Eighth Avenue that morning or have information about Johnson’s movements in late January and early February?
