Ashlon Quinton Fields, 18, was fatally wounded by gunfire and died at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center on November 18, 2023. He was transported from Southport Road and pronounced dead at 2:13 p.m.; the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office confirmed the cause of death as a gunshot wound. Born August 28, 2005, Ashlon—also called Ash—had graduated from Spartanburg High School earlier in 2023.

Friends and family remembered him as comical, blunt, and humble, with an ever-present smile; he enjoyed welding and followed football and basketball, and had worked as a cashier at a local Ingles grocery store. The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation but has not released details about the shooting, motive, or any persons involved, and no arrests have been announced.

If anyone knew Ash or has information about what happened on Southport Road that afternoon, please come forward.
