On the evening of September 24, 2023, 19-year-old Quindaris Washington-Russ was found in a parking lot near Bream Road in North Charleston, South Carolina, bleeding from a gunshot wound. Officers on patrol located him at about 7:27 p.m. and rendered aid before he was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina. He died at 9:58 p.m.; the Charleston County Coroner’s Office determined a gunshot wound was the cause of death and the North Charleston Police Department opened a homicide investigation.

Two days later, on September 26, 2023, police arrested 27-year-old Tyron Deleston Jr. and charged him with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Deleston is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center awaiting trial. The community has been left mourning Washington-Russ while the case proceeds through the courts.
