Zanqurious Damil Hurley was 27 when he was fatally shot and brought to Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood, South Carolina, on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. He arrived with a gunshot wound to his upper body and was pronounced dead at 12:34 a.m. The Greenwood County Coroner’s Office ruled the death a homicide.

Authorities identified 43-year-old Rodriguez Roe as a suspect in the days after the shooting. Roe was already in the Greenwood County Detention Center on unrelated fentanyl charges when the sheriff’s office announced plans to serve him with a murder warrant tied to Hurley’s death. Details about the circumstances of the shooting, including any motive, have not been widely released and information about later legal proceedings is limited.
