Charles D. Byrd Jr., 55, of Easley, South Carolina, was fatally shot in his home on May 25, 2023. The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office found Byrd deceased from a gunshot wound after responding to a call that day.

The investigation quickly focused on a family member; authorities identified and arrested Byrd’s 20-year-old stepson and charged him with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Officials have not released a motive, and the case is expected to proceed through the court system.
