A visit to Anderson, South Carolina, turned fatal for 33-year-old Reenan Jamal Smith on the night of April 1, 2023. Smith, who had traveled from New York to see family, became involved in a domestic altercation with a known acquaintance that escalated to gunfire. He was found with gunshot wounds at the intersection of Tribble Street and North Murray Avenue and was taken to AnMed, where he later died. The Anderson County Coroner’s Office ruled the death a homicide.

Investigators identified a suspect soon after the shooting. Santonia Morrison, 24 at the time, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime; she was denied bond at a hearing.
