Dewane Kinta Rice, 19, was found dead inside an abandoned house on the 700 block of East Bolton Street in Savannah on the evening of Friday, January 1, 2016. Metro officers located him while conducting a welfare check. Investigators from the Savannah‑Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Violent Crimes unit, patrol and forensics personnel, and the Chatham County Coroner all responded and sent his body to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for autopsy.

Dewane had not been seen since December 24, 2015, creating a week‑long gap before his body was discovered. He was reportedly homeless. Authorities publicly asked for information and encouraged tips through CrimeStoppers and a confidential tip line. A funeral was held January 16, 2016, at Holy Zion Pentecostal Church in Savannah.

No arrests or suspect identifications have been announced and the investigation was described as a homicide but appears to have gone cold. If anyone knew Dewane or saw him between December 24 and January 1, please contact CrimeStoppers with any information.
