James Edward Cross Jr., 34, was killed in Marion, South Carolina in early March 2023. He was a father of three and is remembered by family and friends for his laughter and devotion to his children. Officers responding to a residence that night found Cross with a fatal gunshot wound, and the case was investigated as a homicide.

Within days, Marion Police arrested two people in connection with the shooting. Dae’Zon Gause was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime; Jameisha Brown was charged with accessory after the fact to murder. The community is left awaiting the court process to clarify what happened that night and the roles of those charged.
