In the early hours of November 14, 2015, two separate shootings in Savannah ended with the deaths of 18-year-old Robert Brown and 31-year-old Emmanuel Simmons. Brown was brought to Candler Hospital in a private vehicle shortly before 1:00 a.m. and later died of his injuries; police placed the shooting near 57th and Montgomery streets. About an hour and a half later, Simmons was found shot at West 45th and Montgomery and also died after being taken to a hospital. Investigators treated the two killings as linked because of their close timing and locations.
On December 31, 2018, violent crimes detectives served murder warrants charging 36-year-old Nathaniel Thomas Pugh III with the two counts of murder. Pugh was already in federal custody on unrelated charges stemming from a November 4, 2015 shootout in which he was wounded; police say a search of his vehicle turned up a Glock with his DNA and a large quantity of drugs. Federal convictions in December 2017 led to a 200-month sentence in March 2018 for firearm possession by a felon, drug distribution, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. The state-level outcome of the murder charges is not publicly documented.
Did anyone in Savannah at the time see activity near 57th and Montgomery or West 45th and Montgomery that night?
