A violent triple killing in Fredericksburg, Virginia, left three roommates dead and a fourth in custody. On June 4, 2024, 60-year-old Gregory Scott Powell was found dead in his White Street Court home after deputies responded to a welfare check prompted by a concerned friend. Powell sustained upper body trauma described as consistent with a gunshot wound. His two roommates, Robert John McGuire, 77, and Carol Anne Reese, 65, were also found deceased at the scene.

Investigators focused on 23-year-old Alyssa Jane Venable, a fellow roommate. Leads including a tip that Venable had a handgun led to a multi-day search involving the U.S. Marshals Service. Venable was located in New York State, where a high-speed pursuit ended when her vehicle was disabled and she was taken into custody, then returned to Virginia. She has been charged with first- and second-degree murder in the three deaths. The motive has not been released.
