In the early hours of May 25, 2024, in the 1300 block of D Street in Waynesboro, Virginia, 22-year-old Seth Wayne Wallace was found with multiple gunshot wounds at about 4:18 a.m. He was taken to UVA Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Wallace died of those injuries less than three weeks later.

Investigators say the shooting involved a personal dispute among former close friends that centered on a love triangle. Authorities arrested 23-year-old Dustin Allen Dove of McGaheysville about twelve hours after the shooting; he was initially charged with aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Prosecutors reported that Dove and 21-year-old Kaylee Grace Turner drove to Wallace’s home, Dove lay in wait, and when Wallace appeared he was struck multiple times in the lower torso and groin. Body camera footage reportedly captured a wounded but conscious Wallace identifying his shooter as Dustin.
