Desire Alexandria Buggs, 24, of Woodbridge, died from a gunshot wound on January 6, 2024, near Possum Point Road and Leonard Street in Dumfries, Virginia. Her husband, 24-year-old Daniel Okoe Lawson, drove her to a local hospital where she later died.
Lawson initially told investigators that a group of women had attacked them at a stop sign and that one of those women had shot Buggs while she sat in the passenger seat. Detectives found inconsistencies in his statements, and an acquaintance told police Lawson had asked them to remove a gun from his car while he waited in the hospital. Law enforcement recovered the weapon believed to have been used and arrested Lawson on January 7, 2024, on charges including felony murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
The death has been characterized as a homicide. If anyone has information about what happened that night or knew Desire, please share what you know.
